November 2008:
Jimmie Dyess Days 2009 at Fort Gordon is going to be HUGE. The organizing committee
is already coordinating the military, civilian, and Scouting resources that will
be brought to this one of a kind council-level encampment. But it can't happen without
you and your Scouts.
Your Scouts can look forward to the LARGEST single Scouting event in over a decade
in the CSRA with such unique demonstrations as an Air Force fly-over, a parachute
jump team, a motorcycle simulator, a helicopter fly-in, the US Army Band, a K-9
demo team, a rock climbing wall, and top-notch entertainment in a Jamboree-like
arena show. In addition, there will be patrol competitions in some innovative and
new events that could only happen at Fort Gordon. It won't be just about FUN, though.
There will be unique opportunities for your Scouts to earn full or partial credit
for many merit badge items and rank advancement. This will not be a traditional
council or district camporee given the unique location, and the wide variety of
things to do and see.
The event is open to Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Venturers (coed), and Explorers from
the CSRA (and beyond). The goals of the event are to enable the Georgia Carolina
Council, BSA in our efforts to develop youth of good character, train the youth
on the responsibilities of participating citizenship, and develop their personal
fitness.
Mark your calendars for October 2-4, 2009!
